About Hikingjournalm

Eight Years Advising Mombasa's Property Market — Honestly

Hikingjournalm was founded on the principle that a smaller, more selective practice delivers better outcomes than a high-volume agency chasing commission totals.

Who We Are and What We Do

A Mombasa-based boutique consultancy specialising in coastal residential and commercial property.

Hikingjournalm was established in 2016 by advisors who had spent the preceding decade working within larger Kenyan property firms and had grown frustrated by a persistent gap: clients were receiving volume-driven service when what they needed was considered, expert counsel. The firm was deliberately structured to remain small — no more than eight active advisors at any time — so that every client engagement is handled by a senior member of the team rather than delegated to a junior coordinator. We serve owner-occupiers purchasing their first coastal home, experienced investors expanding a buy-to-let portfolio, diaspora clients navigating a purchase from overseas, and business owners seeking commercial premises on the coast. Our geographic focus is tight: Mombasa County and its immediate periphery. We do not maintain satellite offices in Nairobi or Kisumu, and we do not list properties we have not personally visited. That disciplined scope is not a limitation — it is the source of the detailed, actionable market intelligence we bring to every engagement.

How We Work — and What We Will Not Promise

Clarity over optimism, process over shortcuts.

Every new instruction begins with a forty-five-minute briefing session — in person at our Nkrumah Road office or via video call for overseas clients — during which we establish your precise requirements, budget constraints, and timeline. We then conduct a written market assessment, delivered within five working days, that sets realistic expectations: achievable price ranges, typical time-to-completion for your property type, and any title or planning considerations specific to your target areas. We will not promise a sale price we do not believe is achievable, and we will not list a property whose title we are not satisfied with. Mombasa's coastal land market carries real complexity — beachfront access rights, county coastal zone restrictions, and legacy family-title disputes are not rare. We flag these clearly and advise clients to appoint independent advocates. Where a property search extends beyond six months without a suitable match, we will say so directly rather than push you toward a compromise. Results depend on market conditions outside our control; what we control is the quality of our advice and the diligence of our process. We have completed over 340 transactions since 2016, and the metric we track most carefully is the proportion of clients who return to us or refer a colleague — which currently stands at 61%.

“Hikingjournalm handled the sale of my late father's plot in Tudor during a genuinely difficult period for my family. They communicated with us clearly every step of the way, never oversold what was achievable, and the final price exceeded our initial estimate by eight percent. The professionalism was consistent throughout.”
